Recycling Away from Home

"Recycling Away from Home", or RAH, is a joint project involving Sierra Club, Marquette Neighborhood Association, Wil-Mar Center and Community Car. The goal is to provide recycling facilities for neighborhood festivals and events in Madison. Right now our focus is on the 4 festivals in the Marquette Neighborhood (Waterfront, La Fete, Orton Park & Willy St Fair) but we hope to expand our reach over time.

Visit www.madisonrah.org for full details

We also encourage vendors participating in these events to use recyclable (ex:beer cups) or bio-degradable (ex:food takeaway clamshells) materials. There is also a growing movement to get city and county processes in place to mandate recycling at any festival or event in the area.

Why We Need You:

To be a part of the "Recycling Krewe".
Since the city does not provide these services, we are in charge of checking and replacing bags in the recycling bins scattered around the event. Its not hard work, and you aren't asked to do anything you're not comfortable with. And you can often drink beer, listen to music, watch the people and enjoy the festival while you do it! How can you beat that for a volunteer job!

To help "sit" our information table.
At these festivals, we usually have a Sierra Club presence to get the word out on our activities. Volunteers help by handing out Sierra Club information about membership, outings, our Saving Energy Together campaign, and our youth program Inner City Outings. We also have sign-up sheets to collect contact information from potential volunteers or those with questions. And, of course, we're still selling our cool "I'm Here to Save the Planet" t-shirts!
